Out with the old and in with the new. Happens more frequently in Los Angeles than you’d believe. Last night I had the privilege of checking out the new dining concept, Viva Hollywood, which has taken over Beso’s real estate in the heart of Hollywood. Donning bright red walls on it’s exterior, Viva Hollywood draws your eyes and attention from the bustling street.
The interior has been remodeled and has a classy yet eclectic vibe. Upon entering you’re greeted by a massive rustic chandelier along with an extended bar top, wood-oven kitchen and and open floor plan.
On the far side of the venue you’ll find the formal dining area as well as space for nightly live entertainment. Nestled on the upstairs balcony are more booths and a fun and whimsical piñata room. The piñata room is exactly what it sounds like, an event space filled with various piñata with characters ranging from angry birds to unicorns to marvel heroes.
The Latin inspired menu is curated by Chef Raymond Alvarez, formerly of Pink Taco and Toca Madera. The dishes created by Alvarez incorporate seasonally conscious ingredients, creative techniques and bold flavors. Alvarez shared:
“I am incredibly thrilled to have partnered with Viva Hollywood as there is an
inherent alignment of our philosophies, which makes our collaboration even
more exciting. I look forward to sharing that harmonious experience with patrons and having them feel the love that I poured into making and curating our nutritious food menu.”
The menu at Viva Hollywood include traditionally Latin dishes such as chicken mole, tamales and short rib taquitos. However, there’s definitely something for everyone and includes vegan options as well such as their chipotle tofu flatbread, casa quesadilla and plantain chips.
The cocktail selection curated by Beverage Director Erik Weatherford includes a mix of sweet drinks as well as some more out-of-the-box concepts. Weatherford imparts a modern take on traditional Latin drinks and was the mastermind behind cocktail programs at restaurants such as Yardhouse, Preux & Propert and Beso. We had the pleasure of taste testing quite a selection from the menu and had to say La La Land, Viva la Vida and Afterglow were what received the highest marks.
The restaurant officially opens to the public today. Do yourself a favor and stop by for a bite or two. Check out the full dinner menu and cocktail menu here.
